“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.”
Who are you going to forgive today?
The stranger who barged into you on the train? The work colleague who has made an unfortunate error? The friend who you care about even though they’ve upset you? The lover who made you cry?
Nobody is perfect. Everyone has their dark side. Most good people don’t intend to harm others. It just happens, however hard we try to prevent it. So what do we do when these things happen to us? Can we always turn away, forgive and forget? Should we?
Forgiveness is hard and yet if we are to live harmoniously we have to forgive small cracks of imperfection to prevent them from becoming huge chasms which we cannot overcome. And if we get to the chasms, then perhaps we ought to forgive those too.
Today, we are half-way through our Advent Calendar of Values, and we’re offering a short 3Di film of quotes on forgiveness. The words are thoughtful, but words are not enough. Action is the way to forgiveness; letting go, emptying the mind and having the will to start anew.
